A Bold Pumpkin Plan

A little introverted hedgehog decides to build a new house from a pumpkin. But this undertaking is bigger than he imagined. So, one by one, he enlists the help of a few friends. When he finally achieves his dream, a cozy little nook for quietly hiding away from the world, he realizes something is missing. Guests!

The friendships he nurtured on his quest help him know that it’s okay to be an introvert, but not all the time.

This adorable children’s picture book, written and illustrated by Katy Hudson, is perfect for all those introverts out there—I include myself in this list. You enjoy being alone, doing things on your own, and having your own quiet space. But you also need a community, friends, family, and a special someone to share your life with. Hedgehog, like all of us, undergoes an emotional transformation, building courage and self-awareness. A must for all fall storytimes, read-a-louds, and family shares for encouraging “boldness.”

And not just building a house, but a home.
