You are an author, but is it your day job? Being an author is not my day job. I am a licensed naturopathic doctor here in Oregon. My days are filled with seeing patients, teaching practitioners, and wellness seekers about a quantum biology approach to health and research at the Quantum Biology Health Institute.

Did you always want to be an author? No, being an author was never in my future as a child or a young adult. It wasn’t until I had something valuable to share that I thought about being an author. Growing up, I always wanted to be a doctor. Now, I am a doctor who has authored a book on health and longevity. Being an author is a natural extension of wanting to help more people.

What is your most recent book, and what inspired you to write it?

I was diagnosed with two autoimmune conditions and Lyme disease in my second year of naturopathic medical school. During my journey back to health, I discovered a broader view of the body, in which light, sound, the water within us, and electrical, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields can profoundly impact our health. I wanted to share this information with others so they could also have a broader view of the body and how to approach health and longevity. That’s why I wrote Optimize: A Groundbreaking 7-Step Plan to Health and Longevity Through Quantum Biology.

How do you hope your book uplifts those who read it? I hope that my book not only gives people more tools for better health and longevity but also provides a deep sense of interconnection and belonging. We don’t end at the barriers of our skin. Today, so many of us are feeling disconnected. Yet we are intimately connected to the world around us, and understanding this opens new avenues for our healing. From the rising and setting of the sun to the embrace nature offers to the coherence we share in communities, our health depends on connection. I hope people walk away from the book with a more profound sense of connection.

Being an author today is like running a business. How do you manage all your publicity and social media, and keep your engagement up with readers? It does require me to wear many hats and juggle several tasks at a time, but I genuinely believe in this message, so I do my best to manage my time efficiently. I find that doing the functions that require the most concentration earlier in the day helps.

How do you hold yourself accountable and achieve the goals that you set forth? I am a big fan of lists. I update my to-do list daily and try my best to get things done efficiently. It seems contradictory, but taking breaks throughout the day also helps me be more productive and cross things off the list.

How do you structure your day and make time for writing? I structure my day with a morning routine of light, time outside, and nourishment. Then I tackle my most challenging tasks first thing in the day, including writing. Then the rest of the day is filled with teaching, work, and family time.

What do you find most fulfilling in the career that you’ve chosen? I love being an author because it allows me to reach more people with my message. I can only see so many patients each week, but a book will help me share important information with a broader audience.
