Author Q&A With Jim Kaveney

Jim Kaveney is all heart. As the youngest of nine children in an eleven-member household in Erie, Pennsylvania, Jim learned at a young age the importance of balancing work, life, family, and faith. Growing up, he sought understanding and solace in forces greater than himself, a quest that has influenced his personal and professional journey. Meet Jim…

You are an author, but is it your day job? If not, what fills your days? No, it is not my day job. However, it could be because I spend much time spreading the word about transforming pain into purpose. My day job is being an entrepreneur and building my new company, Unlimited Heart Health & Wellness, a health transformation platform for patients and caregivers with Atrial Fibrillation.

Did you always want to be an author? The idea came across my desk, but I dismissed it for many reasons. However, a friend told me only to write a book if there was a purpose. I eventually found my purpose, and thus, I became an author.

What is your most recent book, and what inspired you to write it? My first book is Unlimited Heart: How to transform your pain into purpose. I was inspired to write it when I realized I wanted to take my experiences in life, particularly my diagnosis with Atrial Fibrillation, and help others struggling with their disease or personal challenges they are battling.

How do you hope your book uplifts those who read it? I hope it will uplift readers by showing them that physical, emotional, or professional challenges can be transformed into opportunities for growth and meaning. My story of resilience, overcoming Afib, and building businesses despite adversity, I hope to offer a blueprint for turning setbacks into sources of strength. I hope it encourages readers to embrace their struggles rather than be defined by them. Additionally, I want to inspire them to take risks, seize opportunities, and believe in their own ability to overcome. Most importantly, Unlimited Heart reminds readers that they are not alone in their struggles and that there is always a way forward, even when life feels uncertain. It’s a book of hope, empowerment, and purpose-driven living.

What are you most excited about with this book? While this book is all about me, it’s not about me. The prospect of my story serving as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in others’ lives brings me immense fulfillment.

How did writing a book help your career take off? Well, someone told me, “If you want to be an authority, you have to be an author. So, while I would not consider myself an authority, it has opened doors to a new world of possibility by making connections and driving new innovations.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in your professional industry? Having worked in the life sciences industry through learning and development, I highly recommend they embrace a lifelong journey of learning. The advancements, technologies, and best practices are constantly evolving.

How do you handle setbacks and criticism? When faced with setbacks and criticism, I try to take a moment to breathe and collect my thoughts. This prevents me from acting impulsively and gives me the space to clear my mind. I then look at the setback/ criticism with a reframed mind, learn from the situation, and act accordingly.

Being an author today is like running a business. How do you manage all your publicity and social media and keep your engagement up with readers? I could not do this on my own. I have a wonderful social media manager to handle the engagement. We work collaboratively on making the content, and she establishes the flow and reach.

How do you hold yourself accountable and achieve the goals that you set forth? Before establishing any goal, I must understand if it truly matters and is aligned with my purpose. Once the goal is established and work has begun, I continually ask questions about what is working and what is not. My curiosity about my progress and roadblocks helps me to refine along the way. Because goal attainment is not linear, I give myself a heft amount of forgiveness along the way. This helps me not get discouraged and keep my vision of success. My belief will get me to where I want to go.

How do you structure your day and make time for writing? When heavily involved in writing, I wake up early and carve out enough time to write 1,500 words per day.

What do you find most fulfilling in the career that you’ve chosen? Building things! I love the process of building. Whether it is a manuscript or a business, rolling up my sleeves and getting into it is what drives me.

What book uplifts you? I can’t say there is one in particular, but my uplifting influences range from Atomic Habits, The Bible, A More Beautiful Question, and Think and Grow Rich.

Anything else you’d like to share with your readers? I am truly grateful for their time, energy, and effort in embracing Unlimited Heart!
