Did you always want to be an author? Since I was about the age of 14, yes. In fact, I wrote a version of Rose Island when I was 14, and it is one of the first things I wrote.
What are you most excited about with this book? Since Rose Island is my first published book, I’m excited that a lifelong goal of mine is finally happening. This book has existed in some variation for over half my life, and it’s exciting to be releasing it.
How do you hope your book uplifts those who read it? I hope those who read my book will have fun. Life can be stressful or dull at times and not very fun. I think it’s healthy to immerse yourself in a good book, wind down, relax, and just have fun reading.
How do you handle setbacks and criticism? I always remind myself that nothing is ever going to be perfect, I can’t please everyone, and that I’m always a student. I’m very new to the process of publishing a book and there was a lot I didn’t know. I always need to keep an open mind and be willing to learn something new.
What advice would you give someone wanting to succeed in your professional industry? Time will tell if I succeed in this industry, but for anyone else considering writing a book, just write it. It can be daunting and challenging, but you’ll never know if you can succeed until you try. Be willing to adapt and learn new things; chances are you’ll become a better writer.
How do you structure your day and make time for writing? I’ll admit I don’t have a set schedule when it comes to writing, even though I probably should. I tend to write in the evenings or at night after I’m done with everything else for the day. If I only manage to write a few paragraphs in a day, I consider that a win.
What book uplifts you? Ice Station by Matthew Reilly is a book I love to read that puts me in a good mood. He’s a huge inspiration of mine to write fast-paced action thrillers.
