Carrying The Tiger, A Memoir: Living with cancer, dying with grace, finding joy while grieving.
Author Tony Stewart shares a detailed account of the journey he shared with the love of his life, Lynn, from their first meeting to the end of her battle with cancer. The story isn’t isolated; many have also navigated devastating diagnoses, remissions, setbacks, and exhausting searches for cures. But Tony’s story is unique. It’s a love that is so strong, no one could imagine this man ever making room for another love, but he does.
This intimate circle-of-life memoir is heavy with emotion, both sadness and joy. One can easily see how Tony pours out his soul, love, and grief deeply through his words. There will not be a dry eye among the readers of Carrying the Tiger, filled with touching memories and detailed descriptions of the ongoing diagnoses and treatments Lynn endured.
After her passing, Tony struggles to move forward, but his friends and his cats, who also grieve in their own way, create a circle of support. In time, he meets a woman who shares a similar story. As they correspond and converse, they forge a relationship over lost loves and struggle to find joy again. But they do.
As someone whose last few years have been filled with loss and heartache, I appreciated this memoir. My family experienced many similarities; honestly, it reopened some pretty raw wounds. But it was also cathartic. I’m challenged to pinpoint the target audience for this book but imagine someone who’s been there, or has a passion for heartfelt life stories, will be captivated by his journey and possibly find solace in his words.
