Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor
Mark Nolan’s world is turned upside down when his sister is killed, and he becomes the sole caregiver to his six-year-old niece, Holly. Worried about what lies ahead, Mark is relieved when his brother Sam agrees to help. The only two single Nolan brothers step up, though Alex promises to pitch in when he can. They take her in at Sam’s “under construction” vineyard on the San Juan Island home where they live.
Traumatized by her mother’s sudden death, Holly won’t speak until one day when they visit the new children’s toy store.
There, they meet the owner, Maggie Conroy, who enchants them both as she shares the story of a fairy that “lives” in a little house in the store. From that moment on, the three of them bond in a way that leads to surprises culminating in life-altering choices come Christmas Eve.
Nicely done, award-winning romance author Lisa Kleypas.
I imagine this contemporary romance amid a stack of holiday-season gifts. Especially if you and yours enjoy an enchanting romance set in a small town, it also has a very Hallmark-ish vibe. Then, a memory of a movie I once saw struck me. I looked it up, and voila! “Christmas with Holly” is a 2012 movie starring Sean Faris and Eloise Mumford.
Well, there you have it—a read worthy of raving recommendations and a journey to the big screen.
