Heal Your Career Wounds

Navigating the Trauma of Today’s Workplace

This book by influencer-turned-career-coach and holistic healer Mandy Tang, aka “Career Coach Mandy,” is a resource for professional wounds. Every person I know harbors a career wound or two. As a former coach and counselor, I get this, and yes, I have my own wounds that still re-emerge time and again.

The book is divided into four parts.

Awakening is that slap in your face (well, more of a gentle tap) that invites you to become fully aware and accepting of the fact that there is history. In other words, mistakes, hurts, discontents, misalignments from your past (or current) have lasting impacts on your career happiness and success. Many offer coaching and guidance, along with several exercises to break down walls and bring forth what needs mending.

Healing is the second part. And this section is where it gets interesting. On to the final two parts—Creating and Embodying—there are plenty of holistic influences. Many spiritual references, advice, and strategies are presented, steeped in her expertise from the trauma-healing side of her work. I’m all in for these, but some—“animal energy” and “unique medicine”—may be a bit esoteric for the reader looking for concrete steps.

My favorite part was the “Myths” section toward the end. It hits many of the misnomers that every professional faces. Coupling that with the “Seven-Day-Reset,” and you have a go-to resource when the going gets tough!

Still, this book offers a unique perspective on the corporate world. Stepping aside from serious stress and hurt often requires a distinctive approach. That’s why I believe there is something in this book for every working professional. From struggling under a toxic boss to being overworked and underappreciated, professionals need to take charge of their trajectory and pave a better path. No one can do this for you, and that’s how Heal Your Career Wounds can help.
