Killer App

What would happen if a journalist, uncertain about his writing ability, decided to invest in an Artificial Intelligence program to do the work for him? That’s exactly what Bryce Bogle does when he feels uncertain about his future with the family paper – The Harbertown Herald. The minute Bryce downloads AIME, “Artificial Intelligence Made Easy,” he unleashes a technological fiend set on teleporting the newspaper to the top. Creating dissension, breaking rules, and continuously adapting powerful, controlling, and human-like qualities, the Herald team needs government intervention to bring AIME under control.

This is a fun read by Dr. James E. Gregory, that begs the question, fiction or fact?

Well, it’s fiction, but it does make you think. And possibly shudder. Despite the booming industry, AI is still in its infancy, and who knows where the technology will go. The story has many layers and underlying plot themes, including longstanding family drama and secrets, money and power, privacy and politics, and life and death. With War Games tenor, AIME even embeds herself into Bryce’s relationship, forcing him and many players to resort to “old school” clandestine communication to avoid AIME’s constant presence.

If you like sci-fi fiction with a technology thriller elements, Killer App is the book for you.
