Lie By Moonlight
This is the fourth book in the Vanza series by New York Times Bestselling author Jane Ann Krantz writing as Amanda Quick. This historical romance is fraught with intrigue, passion, ancient arts, mysterious motives, murder, and mayhem. Of course, it has another element many romance readers love, a brave and unconventional heroine.
Miss Concordia Glade is the newest teacher at a distinguished private girls’ academy. Though she’s thrilled to have landed this post, doubts blossom when she discovers things are not as they seem. Then, when four of her pupils are threatened, she secretes them away in the middle of the night, risking her position and putting all their lives at risk.
Private inquiry agent Ambrose Wells is in the right place at the right time to assist Concordia and her charges. Despite his initial reluctance, he provides them with shelter and his protection. And because he’s drawn to the courageous and mysterious young teacher, he’s soon drawn into the deleterious web surrounding the private academy.
I was gifted the fourth book in this series, but didn’t realize it was part of a series until after I finished reading it.
Probably because it’s a great stand-alone historical romantic suspense, but good enough to make me want to read the entire series. I especially love the touches of mysticism, ancient arts, and enigmatic lore ever-present in an Amanda Quick novel. She’s also an accomplished researcher, so well-versed in the periods of her settings, you’d think she has transportive powers. Maybe she does?
For fans of historical romantic fiction with suspenseful elements, The Vanza series is a must-read.
