My Curls Bounce Back
This children’s picture book by Sheila Burlock, illustrated by Patricia Grannum, is about a young boy celebrating his curly hair. As he goes through his day, he thanks God for the moments when his hair, specifically his curls, reminds him of fun things in his life. The bouncing basketball, the twirling jump rope, and the puffing and stretching of a balloon are just a few examples of the similarities he sees. And when his sister braids his hair, he finds humor and delight in the various textures it takes on.
This is a simple yet joyful book that celebrates the hair God gave us.
A great read-aloud and possibly a group activity that inspires kids (and adults) to embrace and share distinctive hairstyles, textures, colors, and characteristics.
