Race to Kindness
This children’s picture book is filled with inspiration for doing kind acts at home and in the community. Written by TIME 2021 Kid of the Year Orion Jean and illustrated by the uber-talented Darkshika Varma, it tells a story about a group of kids on a race to do random acts of kindness.
With a sing-song, rhyming flow, it would make a great read-aloud book for home, the classroom, the library, around the campfire, or any place where young children (ages 4-10) gather for learning and fun.
This would make a perfect introduction to a child-centered discussion on kindness and what activities exemplify this character trait. The author outlines simple acts, such as cleaning a room or a local beach, that make a big difference while planting seeds in the minds of future leaders. And through the beautifully colorful illustrations, children see how these activities have a lasting impact and uplift those around them.
