Squash & Pumpkin: #Squash Goals
Two best friends excitedly embrace the fall season. But this year, Squash is not feeling it. Her bestie, Pumpkin, is getting the gourd glory. She’s a rockstar! From drinks to decorations, and pies to pancakes, it’s all about Pumpkin.
Little Acorn Squash decides she’s going to tackle the season with some #SquashGoals. With confidence and feistiness, this “shadow squash” steps into the limelight and discovers she’s got game—and an awesome cheerleader in her best friend, Pumpkin!
This is an adorable picture book written by G.G. McQueen and illustrated by Michael Slack.
Despite the main characters being two gourds, they tug on your heartstrings as Squash feels overlooked. Her best friend is a superstar after all. The story highlights the age-old challenge in friendship when the other’s light suddenly shines brighter. From the playground to the boardroom, every child and adult has experienced a tilt in the collegial axis.
That’s another reason I recommend Squash & Pumpkin as a family share-and-read-aloud book.
We can all take a page out of Squash’s story and learn how to step out from another’s shadow and embrace our unique brilliance.
