The “Challenged” Writer
Everyone has a story or two to tell. I firmly believe this. Whether it’s shared through poetry, a memoir, or woven into a fictional novel, the story is begging to be told. Choosing to write that story is a choice, right or wrong. Some choose to keep the stories close to their hearts, pass them down verbally with family or friends, or formally present them to the world in some form of literature.
More often, I see stories shared in books because the author was compelled to entertain or teach, maybe even caution, because, well, they were faced with a challenge—illness, loss, heartache, tragedy, impairment, disadvantage, or inequity. These are only a few “challenges” that inspire uplifting stories.
Let me clarify. Everyone has challenges and will face challenges in the future.
Some are mild, some extreme, and some ongoing. The challenge is twofold: Should you share your challenge with the world, and should you challenge yourself to achieve that goal?
When faced with any challenge, writing about it is often not the first step one considers. But reconsider. These challenges impart meaningful lessons. Sometimes, the only lesson the writer can see is the cathartic process of putting their experience on paper. That is incredibly uplifting. And that can help with emotional and, yes, physical healing.
Yet, knowing your challenge can inspire and help others is a revelation.
It may be delayed or accompanied by some backlash, but your story counts, your challenge is real, and your voice and journey matter.
If you are facing a challenge that seems insurmountable. Perhaps it would help to share it with others. You’re not alone. A world of readers is waiting to connect to you through your story and be inspired by your words.
I hope you accept this challenge.
I hope this article provided you with a few applicable ideas. I would be honored if you shared this on social media. And speaking of sharing, please share your own ideas and experiences below.
