The Love That Made You
This rhyming children’s picture book by Grace Semler Baldridge and illustrated by Fran Alvarez is nothing less than a gem. The solution for caregivers with children who are desperately seeking answers about where they came from and more.
The overarching theme is that the child—reading or being read to—is loved and wanted.
The love that binds the family (however it’s designed) comes from God and is all around. Sharing how the world is united in this love is important, especially when there is so much divisiveness, anxiety, and uncertainty impacting everyone, including the very young.
Though there are plenty of beautifully illustrated visuals, this book is not all about rainbows and sunshine. Instead, the author honestly shares that there will be tough and sad times ahead. Whatever comes, this love that made “you” is there to support you through it all. The message is inclusive and nondenominational.
I love how the publisher always includes “author notes” at the back of the book.
These are incredibly helpful and inspiring for parents and caregivers, as well as for those using this book in lesson planning or story time. In this book, the author addresses existential questions and does a lovely job of explaining the impetus for it.
A lovely book that I highly recommend adding to your family and organization’s library.
