The Spark Factor: The Secret to Supercharging Energy, Becoming Resilient, and Feeling Better Than Ever
This book, written by Molly Maloof, MD, is a compilation of all she’s learned after her work as a concierge doctor, consultant, and advisor, not to mention an educator, teaching a pioneering course on healthspan in the Wellness Department at Stanford University School of Medicine. It’s all about biohacking—changing how our bodies work through wellness, medical, and lifestyle strategies, ultimately transforming cellular machinery for the better. In other words, live a longer, more vibrant, and healthier life through understanding your body and integrating optimal activities to increase energy and resilience.
In complete transparency, this book is catered to women, but a good three-quarters of it applies to all genders.
Whatever your health interests are, you will benefit from better understanding your body’s workings down to the micro-biometrics. Who doesn’t want to have more energy and a more vibrant life? But there’s more to this than eating veggies and hitting the gym. There’s a heavy emphasis on our unique make-up and the necessary markers for understanding strategies that work best for you and how to engage your medical professional team to help you succeed. Today, you need to do your homework and be your advocate. The easy-to-understand language is appreciated, providing guidance and motivation for optimizing one’s health.
Who knew you could manipulate your biology for the better at any age?
There’s a heck of a lot of promise here, but this is one book that delivers. I’ve taken copious notes and marked up my copy, which I plan to reference again for insight, motivation, and strategy. Of course, there is a lot about physical health, but Dr. Maloof weaves mental health and performance throughout. It’s all connected. Did you know that a carton of French fries can result in depression and arthritis? Yeah, you probably did. However, while hard, changing that habit is doable, and the motivation to make that change is clearly outlined in this book.
I love the word “Spark,” and evidently, so does the author.
I imagine a life waking up daily and using that word to describe how I feel. Very uplifted! While I often do, this book has opened my eyes to how I can manifest that ongoing feeling. It’s never too late to start rewriting your future. Whatever plans you have moving forward, this book will help you get there and stay there for a long time.
