Winning For Life: Make Every Day Rich in Every Way

The goal of this book aligns with the professional goal of the author and coach, Denis Waitley, who helps people grow through a self-discovery program built on the success strategies of the world’s most outstanding thought leaders. The leaders he’s worked with include Fortune 500 executives, Olympic Athletes, Super Bowl champions, and young entrepreneurs, and have inspired him to author over 16 books and build a following for his ability to shepherd people out of an “impoverished mindset” and into an enriched and joyful lifestyle.

In the first chapter, he poses an excellent question: To whom have you given the authority to train your brain?

In other words, from where are you consuming your intel—news, social media, politicians, peers, etc.? It’s time to take back control of your thoughts, habits, dreams, and emotions, and channel them toward achieving your goals. One of his key axioms includes the use of imagery and experiences. Whether imagined or real, and repeated, influences thinking. This is the science behind advertising. This also affects our behavior and attitude. Rehashing fears and problems leads to depression and negative performance. Recognizing that repetitive stimuli can influence your subconscious, it’s essential to feed it with positive and enriching content. It’s not as simple as this summary, but it’s also not as complicated as it seems. Nourish your mind and body with healthy fuel, and you’ll achieve positive outcomes.

“Thoughts do become things. Observation, imitation, repetition, and internalization lead to realization.”

Respect for others, self-confidence, willingness to change, desire to improve, self-esteem, honesty, and responsibility are themes that recur throughout. But trust me when I say that this is not a lecturing tome; instead, it’s very motivating. There’s a consistent theme of building oneself up to greatness by learning how to rewire thinking. This takes years and practice, but this book is an excellent resource for guidance and support. He also discusses how failure is essential. Avoiding it can be paralyzing and injurious. While it hurts to have setbacks and rejection, the best of the best has learned to turn this into fuel. But this doesn’t happen overnight.

Winning in life is a significant promise, but it’s a great, all-encompassing title for a book designed to teach the reader to strip away dissatisfaction and discover their inner power. When we learn that limitations are only psychological boundaries and are willing to do the work to empower and equip ourselves to try, we are all capable of achieving greatness. This book is the first step in learning how to do so.
