Author Lori Keesey’s story is a heartwarming tale about two souls destined to be together but held apart by fate. When T.C. reconnects with Ginny, the woman he loves, their lives have drastically changed. They are thrust together at a critical hour, and despite the hope-filled outcome, their choices sacrifice their future. I realize this summary is a bit cryptic, but if I divulge any more, I’d spoil the ride. And this is one you want to get on.
T.C. and Ginny become two authentic characters—people you know, maybe even relate to.
Lori does an excellent job putting the reader in their shoes. You would experience the same confusion and frustration as T.C. tries to navigate his new reality. He stumbles through life with a come-as-you-are, “live-and-let-live” approach until Ginny crosses his path. Inexplicably drawn to her, he misses his chance for love and to change their lives. Regret, guilt, shame, and longing continue to trail him until they meet again, and he can finally set things right and shed this burden once and for all.
Then there’s Ginny, who is so alone yet digging deep into her angelic reserves to do everything she can to please others. If she makes them happy, then maybe she can be too. But she’s fooling herself. Only when she sees T.C. again does she discover this truth. But it’s too late. Fate intervenes and lays at her feet a different path—one beginning with a drastic life-altering choice.
This is a very well-written book by a superb writer.
But a lot is packed into this story—flashbacks, religion, domestic abuse, addiction, lost love, guardianship, life, and death. It will take the reader a minute to adjust. It’s also a bit confusing who is speaking (POV). At first, you may struggle to understand the character’s objectives, typically unearthed in the first few chapters. I’m not saying this to deter you but to prepare you. I want you to stay rooted and read.
The first few chapters walk you through a dark room as your mind tries to comprehend the plot. I believe this is purposeful. Then suddenly, a door swings open, and light shines the way. The mysterious shroud is lifted when this happens, and emotions take the wheel. This is a good thing. Anytime a book uplifts you, makes your heart rate hitch, or brings tears to your eyes, you know you’ve uncovered a storyline that will stick long after you finish reading it. So, if you’re like me and you like books that make you reflect and challenge you to reconsider your approach to life, then Always Think of Me by Lori Keesey is worth a read.
