This book is ideal for teaching children, or developmentally challenged individuals, about the five senses. It also addresses how mindfulness can help reduce anxiety and worry.
Simply expressed, Niko learns through his daily experiences about the five senses. When he tells his mom that he is worried, she teaches him a game that uses the five senses to help him feel calm. Through the game, Niko learns how to delve deeper into his sensory experiences, which heightens his understanding of how mindfulness provides a doorway for embracing peaceful awareness of his experiences. His mother also reminds him that this game can be played alone or with others whenever he feels anxious or worried and helps change emotions to calm.
Vermont author, Karen Correll, also provides resources to further learning and support for teachers and caregivers.
These resources help with continual provision of wellbeing, reducing anxiety, and building the mindfulness journey for readers. Finally, she includes the cookie recipe that Niko’s mom uses to teach him about the five senses.
