Tread Loudly: Call Out the Bullsh*t and Fight for Equality in the Workplace

Tread Loudly: Call Out the Bullsh*t and Fight for Equality in the Workplace

Every now and then you come across a book you wish youd read when you were young. Or maybe you are young—so its not too late to take full advantage of all this book has to offer. Now that Ive set up this must read” for professional women, lets get specific.

Author, Kristine Cherek kicks off sharing her reasons for writing this book. One that struck home (because I can honestly relate) was that she was taught there was one path to success. This pushed against the grain of her natural abilities and uniqueness. She felt she had to conform, needed to make people forget her gender,” and have no life beyond work. This is still an ongoing pressure, whether external or internal, and thus stunting success for those who believe it to be true.

The stories Cherek shares are familiar to those whove lived it. But thats the goal here. This book is a gift to those who read it, providing mentoring guidance on the sobering reality of the workplace. Yet she provides hope, educating career professionals on how to navigate a path through. I applaud her transparency and willingness to be a voice for women battling the aptly coined “corporate jungle.” While its nice to know that youre not alone, this book isnt designed for a moral boost, but rather a gut punch reality check, wake up/shake up call, coupled with experienced advice for driving positive change.

Cherek doesnt mince words, or language, in such a way that screams unattainable.” She meets you where you are, whether youre a fresh graduate or someone stuck in the middle and talks to you like a peer. And for those embarking on their first career, the Cheerio” metaphor is spot on—you need to read the book to get this ;). It sums up adulting (and if I might add, social media).

Tread Loudly is a must read for corporate women, reminding you that youre never too young or old to follow your dreams. Dont let anyone say you cant. Confidently move forward, head held high, and tread loudly as you go!
