A Dime At A Time—My Canine Charity Challenge

A Dime At A Time—My Canine Charity Challenge

I am not the biggest fan of social media. Now before you get upset, let me clarify. I like the interaction and the posts of others, I just struggle with my own sometimes. Yes, I do my share of posting, but it’s not really where I like to spend my free time. I’d prefer to be writing and reading. Still, I understand the writing (and business) world has changed and we need to have an online presence in order to respect our publishing contracts. I get it.

All the same, when I do jump on social media I find some pretty interesting things and soon find myself really enjoying the community often to a dangerous loss of time. The idea that I get to converse and learn with others worldwide is amazing—readers, writers, trendsetters and educators alike.

Still, I need to contribute regularly and struggle to do that. So I came up with a personal challenge that benefits animals a dime at a time.

If I challenge myself to commit to posting something that I found worthwhile and am lucky enough to find someone who shares that interest (proof of this is in a new follower on Twitter), I’ll drop a dime in my Humane Society bank. In other words, I tweet, grab a new follow, drop in a dime. My goal is to get several hundreds of dollars this year that I will then send to the Humane Society of the United States where I rescued two of my beloved dogs.

But this won’t be easy. I’m not a Kardashian or J.K. Rowling, so I will need to commit to routinely tweeting and hoping that a dime at a time will get me to my charity goal. Let’s see where this goes.
