I went into the shelter knowing exactly who I was looking for (a cuddly, adult rescue under 50lbs). The shelter told me they had a few options, but I didn’t need to see more than one because the second they brought Rudy (formerly Blanco) into the room he curled up in my lap and that was all I needed to sign the paperwork and bring him home. I knew my dog and this was him.
At least, I thought I knew my dog… Turns out, according to the vet and genealogy report, my 2 year old beagle mix was actually a 10 month old pittie mix. Cue the hilarity of puppyhood! Six years, six apartments, four states, three chewed-up doors, and $4000 in allergy testing later, we’ve finally settled down.
Here are more fun facts about my soul dog:
- Rudy is named after a character from Markus Zusak‘s The Book Thief.
- Nicknames include:
- Rudy Tuesday
- Rudybega
- Rudy Tooty Fresh and Fruity
- Rudiferous
- Rudes
- Ru-Ru
- Rude Boy
- He has one big, black spot on his butt that looks like half of a heart.
- He prefers bowties over bandanas but will wear either.
- He is allergic to chicken (RIP many rugs and carpets).
- He modeled for Aldi (proof)
