The Champion’s Mind: How Great Athletes Think, Train and Thrive

The Champion’s Mind: How Great Athletes Think, Train and Thrive

“We must realize that all people are more alike than different, so we’re all capable of the mental greatness we see and appreciate in others.”

Even if you don’t consider yourself an athlete, you’re probably a competitor. In business or in life we all strive to bring out the best versions of ourselves, competing to achieve more and evolve into better human beings and community members.

While targeted to the elite athlete (ahem, not me), this book by Jim Afremow, Ph.D. is incredibly motivating and insightful for all who prioritize success and positive growth.

In the first chapter alone you will find a plethora of intel to help rewire your mindset from ‘can’t’ to ‘can.’ If success is important to you, this book is full of expert insight on how the mind works when pressed into performance excellence and what it takes to achieve that mindset.

Afremow’s expertise spans from sports to the corporate arenas. Not only does he outline a step-by-step improvement plan to increase goal achievement but he provides strategies that are relevant to personal and business growth. There’s a great section on power with people—how to keep relationships open and supportive versus competitive and undermining. He also outlines ten suggestions for becoming a champion leader. In addition to the aforementioned reasons this book should be read by any success minded individual, the stories and quotes from Afremow and star athletes provide powerful lessons and motivation, such as “Focus on what you want to happen, not what you are afraid might happen.”

Simply put: If you want to rise and shine each day working on a better version of yourself, this book is your how-to manual.
